Following a year of active training in different municipalities, the Kosovo Women’s Network presented its Gender Based Budgeting report at an event highlighting recent efforts on Gender Responsive Budgeting. The report introduces the steps undertaken to make budget planning and execution more effective, transparent, inclusive, and responsive to citizens’ input – in accordance with the 2015 Law on Gender Equality.
USAID Mission Director James Hope, Minister of Trade and Industry Hykmete Bajrami, Deputy Minister of the Environment and Spatial Planning Mendim Rugova, Deputy Minister of Finance Agim Krasniqi, and Igballe Rogova, Director of the Kosovo Women’s Network spoke at the event.
The Law on Gender Equality obligates public budget organizations to promote respect for gender equality in the collection, distribution and allocation of public resources. USAID, through Partnerships for Development (PfD), pursues economic growth reforms that remove discriminatory barriers and that promote easy access to information, responsive government, public participation and policy coordination. One of the main objectives of the activity is to promote the inclusion of all citizens and multiple perspectives into government, including in the budget process.
