Last week Ambassador Delawie visited the Green School in Pristina. This is the first school of its kind in the region, constructed and run with new technologies to reduce energy consumption. The school is a leader in providing quality education, promoting youth innovation and environmentally-conscious citizenship.  To date, the students of this school have engaged in robotics and software programming, and are always looking for ways to apply modern technology to preserving the environment.

During the visit, the Ambassador toured the school, and the students showed him their solar panels and recycling activities. USAID was engaged with the school until recently through the Basic Education Program, an activity aimed at strengthening the professional development of teachers to improve teaching and learning, and preparing students with 21st century skills.

The Green School , a partnership between USAID and the Municipality of Pristina, was constructed in 2011, whereas USAID’s investment totaled US $650,000 and the municipality contributed $1,500,000.
