For Immediate Release
Pristina, October 20 - The U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) is announcing the launch of a major new activity (program) to support improving Kosovo’s ability to provide secure, cleaner, and affordable energy.
REpower Kosovo is a multifaceted five-year activity that will support the Government of Kosovo’s continued efforts to modernize the country’s electricity sector and open the door to new clean energy projects in Kosovo. Growing economies, like Kosovo, depend on a continuous, affordable source of energy for economic growth, to increase employment opportunities and job creation, in particular for underserved segments of society, such as women, young adults, rural populations and minority groups.
USAID has allocated $12 million to the REpower Kosovo program, which will provide technical assistance to help overcome the barriers to develop and implement clean energy projects in Kosovo, and to create an enabling environment that attracts private investments in the Kosovo energy sector. Another important component of the program will be further technical support to the Energy Regulatory Office (ERO), which has demonstrated itself to be a responsive beneficiary balancing the difficult demands of the sector and the citizens of Kosovo.
USAID’s REpower Kosovo will be implemented by AECOM International Development
USAID, an independent federal government agency that receives overall foreign policy guidance from the Secretary of State, has provided economic and humanitarian assistance worldwide for over 50 years. This year, USAID marks 15 years of partnering for positive change in Kosovo.
