For Immediate Release
In yesterdays’ released Doing Business 2014 report by the World Bank, Kosovo was recognized as #5Top Reformer and moved up to #86 rank in overall rankings amongst 189 world economies surveyed. The report shows Kosovo has been amongst 10 economies improving the most across three or more areas measured by Doing Business. Across indicators, Kosovo led the region ahead of Albania, Serbia and Bosnia.
USAID has provided assistance to Kosovo to encourage and support legal reforms that now are being recognized internationally, including reforms in simplifying business registration procedures, streamlining construction permitting and simplifying procedures to registering property.
Many of the reforms were facilitated by USAID through comprehensive advocacy for critical business environment reforms using the Doing Business tool as a platform. While much work remains to be done, Kosovo results show impressive performance that can be built on in future years. The reform momentum in Kosovo continues as many more initiatives are underway to pave the way to a more prosperous future.
USAID will continue to support transformational business environment reforms to help unlock Kosovo’s economic growth potential.
