In response to the drought and famine in the Horn of Africa, the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), has partnered with the Ad Council to launch a national public awareness campaign. The campaign will encourage Americans to spread awareness of the crisis, support the humanitarian organizations conducting the relief operations, and learn more about the solutions through President Obama's Feed the Future initiative to prevent these types of disasters from happening again.

The U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) will host an event in association with the 66th Session of the UN General Assembly in New York City entitled "In the Arena: Sport as a Catalyst for International Development." USAID is engaging strategic partners through the innovative platform of sport to accomplish global development goals. Organizations worldwide have been able to harness the power of sport to address societal challenges related to health, hunger, education, gender equality and citizen security. Sport is a universal language that inspires in a way that few activities can.

MDG Countdown 2011: Celebrating Successes and Innovations will feature innovators from across the development community who will share their experiences of transformative programs and policies.

Dr. Shah and Ambassador Munter will provide a brief look at U.S. diplomacy and development assistance to date, and will focus on the future of the U.S.-Pakistan relationship.

Yesterday, Dr. Rajiv Shah, the Administrator of the U.S. Agency for International Development, announced an increase in United States humanitarian assistance to East Africa. In total, the United States is now providing more than $600 million in aid that is helping more than 4.6 million people suffering from drought and famine in the Horn of Africa.

WASHINGTON, D.C. - The Partnerships for Enhanced Engagement in Research (PEER) program is now accepting proposals aimed at enhancing scientific capacity in the developing world.

Announced on July 7, 2011 as a partnership between the U.S. Agency for International Development and the National Science Foundation (NSF), PEER aims to build scientific collaborations between the United States and developing nations.

The U.S. Government, through the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), announced the expansion of its Indoor Residual Spraying (IRS) program. IRS is the application of safe insecticides to the indoor walls and ceilings of a home or structure in order to interrupt the spread of malaria by killing mosquitoes that carry the malaria parasite. Malaria is the number one killer in Africa.

Tomorrow, USAID Deputy Administrator Donald Steinberg will give a keynote address at InterAction's 2011 Forum. Steinberg will speak at the opening plenary session, entitled "Shifting Landscape: Who are the Key Actors?" During the session, Steinberg will also present the Disabilities Inclusion Award to recognize the development community's innovative efforts to promote disability inclusion as a human rights issue.

Today, the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) swore in Melissa Williams as the mission director to Zimbabwe. As the new mission director, Williams will help Zimbabwe's democratic forces advance reforms and provide much-needed humanitarian assistance. Today, the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) swore in Dana Mansuri as the mission director to Nigeria. Mansuri will oversee a program totaling over $600 million annually. In its development partnership with Nigeria, the U.S. Government seeks to strengthen social stability through improved social services, support transparent and accountable governance, promote a more market-led economy, and enhance Nigeria's capacity as a responsible regional trade partner. USAID Deputy Administrator Donald Steinberg administered the oath of office at the swearing-in ceremony.
