Recently-installed cranes at Khor Al Amiriyah and Al Basrah Oil Terminals in Iraq are speeding up oil-tanker loading times. The South Oil Company has been working with the Tarabot project, funded by USAID, to increase efficiency within the Iraqi oil industry and enhance revenues. The cranes store and launch specialized boats that moor oil tankers to the terminals during loading. The new system saves about two hours on each operation.
Time is money in the oil industry, and with more than 450 tankers docking every year, the cranes are generating significant increases in revenue – a vital resource in the drive to rebuild the country and provide services for its people.
