Developing the Capacity of USAID Implementing Partners: USAID/India Grants Compliance Course

Once again ROAA and RFMO joined forces and launched their second local capacity training on Monday November 30, 2015 at the Imperial Hotel. This is a joint initiative to improve and strengthen the capacity of local implementing partners and expand USAID/India’s focus on resolving compliance issues.  44 people attended the first day of training. Attendees included 19 local partners from the Health, PI, CLEEO and Food Security sectors.

USAID/India Regional Contracting Officer Chuck Pope and USAID/India Regional Controller Amr Elattar kicked off the event with opening remarks that included introduction to the course and to the trainers Jeff Bell and Jean Hacken.

After a brief introduction of the attendees, the participants were quickly engaged in activities that introduced them to the Legal Landscape, US Government Structure and the Hierarchy of Rules.

Spotlight: Population Services International (PSI), India

November 25th marked the start of a 16 Day of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence, which will continue through Human Rights Day on December 10th.

In honoring and in support of International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, we feature our partner PSI whose program addresses the issue of gender based violence (GBV).

Partnering with USAID and working with the public and private health sectors, PSI is working on reducing GBV experienced by women and girls, and on minimizing its harmful impact on survivors and newborns to ultimately improve RMNCH+A  outcomes.

PSI aims to reach out to 22 states in India but will give priority to states in northwest India that have poor GBV/RMNCH+A indicators such ad Punjab, Haryana and Rajasthan.

New Fixed Amount Award: WASH Institute

ROAA/India, Sri Lanka & Maldives is proud to announce that a Fixed Amount Award has been completed with WASH Institute (WASHi).  The purpose of this award is to provide the necessary technical support to MoUD and states/ULBs to enable them to implement mission initiatives consistently at the national, state and city levels. Mission initiatives focus on providing safe and sustainable waste management and sanitation through safe containment, collection and transportation, treatment and reuse for the greatest public health impact.

Through this award, a Project Management Unit (PMU) will be established. The award will focus on sanitation and waste management components and will offer capacity building support for MoUD and city level authorities in the areas of program implementation, capacity development, monitoring, learning and evaluation, strategic communications, and validation and evaluation of affordable and accessible innovative and cost-effective sanitation and waste management technologies.

Helpful Tips: USAID/India implementing partners are required to submit their Value Added Tax (VAT) claims to USAID/India Regional Financial Management Office (RFMO) by the 10th day of the following month after the VAT has been paid. In order to ensure proper submissions of your VAT claims, please closely follow the instructions that will be provided to you in the RFMO monthly VAT submission memo. VAT claims that are not submitted to RFMO properly and in a timely manner will be treated as disallowed expenses.
