On March 19, Minister of Justice Tea Tsulukiani, Minister of Foreign Affairs Tamar Beruchashvili, U.S. Ambassador to Georgia Richard Norland, and USAID/Caucasus Deputy Mission Director, Thomas Morris will open the exhibition “Women Members of Constituent Assembly 1919-21.” The event will celebrate Women’s History Month and honor the first women in politics in modern Georgia. The exhibition highlights the election of the Constituent Assembly in 1919, which was unique in that every citizen of Georgia, despite their gender, was able to participate. 

This event is jointly organized by the Women’s Information Center (WIC) and the National Archives of Georgia. WIC implements the USAID-funded Women as Agents for Change and Empowerment project in Tbilisi, Mtskheta-Mtianeti, Kakheti, Samtskhe-Javakheti, Imereti and Gali. WIC works in partnership the Taso Foundation, the Association of Young Economists of Georgia, and the Institute for War and Peace Reporting. The project promotes women’s political participation and supports women’s political and economic empowerment.
