On September 23, 2010, a conference marking the closeout of the Azerbaijan Reproductive Health and Family Planning Project was held in Baku, Azerbaijan. Results from 6 years of work were presented and recommendations for continued efforts to sustain improvements in the quality of Reproductive Health and Family Planning were made. The conference gathered officials from the Government of Azerbaijan, representatives of U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) and implementing partners, as well as health workers from Baku and the regions.

The project started in October 2004 when a consortium managed by EngenderHealth in partnership with IntraHealth (till 2006), ADRA, and Meridian Group International was selected by USAID to implement a 5-year program. The project worked in collaboration with government agencies, health authorities and local clinics to improve access to and quality of reproductive health and family planning (RH/FP) services in Azerbaijan so that women and men were empowered to make informed choices. The project advocated for RH/FP policy change and worked with policy-makers to move forward to achieve the Millennium Development Goals. The RH/FP project carried out its activities in pilot regions of Agsu, Goychay, Ismailli, Kurdamir and Shamakhi for 6 years and expanded its interventions to the Sheki region in 2007 and Baku/Absheron in January 2008. USAID's total assistance over the last six years in implementing this project was over $11 million USD.
