The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and the U.S. National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) today announced a five-year project that will promote the use of satellite imagery to help Asia’s Lower Mekong region better predict and cope with floods and other natural disasters and increase resilience to the negative effects of climate change.

New Mobile App to Help Combat Illegal Wildlife Trade in Asia

BANGKOK, September 17, 2014 – Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) and Freeland today launched WildScan, a new endangered species identification and response mobile application for law enforcement to use in combatting the multi-billion dollar illegal wildlife trade.

Today’s launch of the WildScan Mobile Application marks a major milestone in ASEAN-WEN’s efforts and continued collaboration to put an end to wildlife trafficking in the region, and around the world. 
Wildlife trafficking will remain a major global threat to species loss, ecosystem degradation, and to human health and security – unless we work collaboratively with all key stakeholders, as one community. This is what brings us together today – a common cause, and a shared commitment.

This report reviews the legal and social environment faced by lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) people in Thailand. It encompasses the findings of the Thailand National LGBT Community Dialogue held in March 2013
in Bangkok, Thailand and additionally includes findings from a desk review, additional interviews, and analysis of published literature on LGBT issues in and about Thailand.
