New Delhi, India – In an effort to strengthen commercial and economic ties between Afghanistan and India through trade and investment, the Governments of India and Afghanistan, along with the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), opened the first “Passage to Prosperity: India-Afghanistan Trade and Investment Show”. The event brings together more than 200 representatives from Afghan companies and more than 800 Indian participants to forge new business connections and discuss potential investment opportunities.

Women entrepreneurs from across Afghanistan gathered Aug. 3 to exchange ideas and close business deals during the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) Women in Agribusiness Networking Conference.

Kabul, Afghanistan - For two years, the problem at Tarakhil Power Plant baffled engineers and international consultants.  However, Afghan engineer Ehsan Khaibar figured out how to bring the plant’s master engine controls back online.  Khaibar, an electrical engineer, works at the Afghan national power utility, Da Afghanistan Breshna Sherkat (DABS).

KABUL, AFGHANISTAN - Afghanistan’s Chief Executive Officer Abdullah Abdullah joined USAID Mission Director William Hammink and Minister of Women’s Affairs Dilbar Nazari at the inaugural meeting of the Promote Advisory Committee to advance women’s empowerment in Afghanistan. The Committee will provide stewardship during the implementation of USAID’s Promoting Gender Equity in National Priority Programs, referred to as Promote.

Herat, Afghanistan – USAID’s Afghanistan Workforce Development Program (AWDP), in partnership with nine private vocational and business training providers and the Herat Provincial government, held a two-day Mega Job Fair on June 16 - 17.  The event connected graduates of AWDP with private sector employers in fields such as construction, financial and project management, marketing, information technology, and sectors in need of youth and women personnel.

Kabul – Afghanistan – The Afghanistan Renewable Energy Union and the Ministry of Energy and Water held the first Afghan Renewable Energy Summit and Exhibition with an “Access to Finance” theme.  The Kabul event took place June 13 - 14, with support from the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) in collaboration with the Embassy of India.

U.S. Embassy Kabul, Afghanistan June 9 -- The Honorable Ferozuddin Feroz, Afghanistan’s Minister of Public Health, joined William Hammink, Mission Director for the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) in Afghanistan, at the launch of a new five-year USAID program to reduce Afghanistan’s high rate of death among mothers, infants and children under age five. 

Afghanistan Government and Partners sign Historic Declaration based on new study to save thousands of women and child lives

KABUL, 12 May 2014 - The Government of Afghanistan today officially signed the Kabul Declaration for Maternal and Child Health, a pledge by government, United Nations agencies, civil society and donors to implement cost-effective, high-impact interventions that will save the lives of more than 35,000 children over the next five years.

The Declaration also includes a commitment to improve government accountability, through a quarterly performance review of reproductive, maternal, newborn and child health using the new Call to Action scorecards.
